Three-Dimensional Geometry in the Georgia Geometry Standards

Mathematics 1

1.   Students will investigate properties of geometric figures in the coordinate plane.

2.   Students will understand and use the language of mathematical argument and justification.

3.   Students will discover, prove, and apply properties of triangles, quadrilaterals, and other polygons.

Mathematics 2

1.   Students will identify and use special right triangles.

2.   Students will define and apply sine, cosine, and tangent ratios to right triangles.

3.   Students will understand the properties of circles.

4.   Students will find and compare the measures of spheres.

a.   Use and apply surface area and volume of a sphere.

b.   Determine the effect on surface area and volume of changing the radius or diameter of a sphere.

Mathematics 3

1.   Students will investigate the relationships between lines and circles.

2.   Students will recognize, analyze, and graph the equations of the conic sections (parabolas, circles, ellipses, and hyperbolas).

3.   Students will investigate planes and spheres.

a.   Plot the point (x, y, z) and understand it as a vertex of a rectangular prism.

b.   Apply the distance formula in 3-space.

c.    Recognize and understand equations of planes and spheres.

Mathematics 4

á      Geometry is not explicitly addressed.
